A farce to be reckoned with

— Kristina Dorsey

Chelsea Players has been producing plays in Norwich for 40 years — which the group says makes it the oldest continuously active theater troupe in southeastern Connecticut.

Chelsea Players will perform “Divorce Southern Style” this weekend and next.

In this comedy by Jennifer Jarrett, Eleanor Bander is divorced, but when she needs some cash, she decides she should reunite with her now-rich ex. How to do this? As part of her crazy plan, she gets him to believe their daughter’s perpetually on-and-off wedding plans are now definitely on … because she’s pregnant.

Veronica Strickland plays Eleanor. Richard Weingart is the former husband. The young couple is played by a duo that is engaged in real life, Shealani

LeBeau and Alexander Fitzpatrick.

Also in the cast: Nicole Wilcox, George Sanchez and Kari Slattberg.

“Divorce Southern Style” is directed by Tim Moore, who, in addition to being a longtime member of Chelsea Players, is an English teacher at Griswold High school, where he has directed 20 plays.
