New London beats Weaver 41-0 in football
Hartford — Cayden Gaskin-Simonds had an 80-yard interception return and 40-yard punt return for touchdowns Thursday night to lead the New London High School football team to a 41-0 win over Weaver.
Jack Philistin had two rushing and one passing touchdown for the Whalers while Chris Jones and Macho Burress also scored for the Whalers (2-2). Kyle Parkes had four sacks and Jaidyn Montes, Burres and Gaskin-Simonds had interceptions for New London.
Boys’ soccer
• Niko Churis scored with one minute left in overtime as New London beat Killingly 2-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game.
Erlin Almendarez scored a goal and Stouvenly Dortelus had an assist for the Whalers (5-2, 3-1). John Fitzgibbons scored and Landon LeSage had an assist for Killingly.
• Lewis Hawkins III and Distefano Manrique had a goal and an assist each as NFA beat Ellington 3-2 in a nonleague game. Logan Jenkins scored a goal and Nate Judge had an assist for the Wildcats (4-2).
• Ben Syphrett scored three goals as St. Bernard beat Putnam 7-0 in an ECC Division IV game. Luke Branegan, Jose Pacheco, Connor McWilliams and Cody Panas also scored for the Saints (5-2, 4-0) and Tim Regan and Jimmy Niles combined for four saves.
• Portland beat Old Lyme 2-1 in a Shoreline Conference game. Lucas Dasilva scored and Oliver Wyman made four saves for Old Lyme (1-5, 1-4).
Girls’ soccer
• Paige Jessuck scored twice as Waterford beat Killingly 5-1 in an ECC Division II game. Sadie Tiven and and Adyson Wiseman had a goal and an assist each and Payton Smith had an assist for the Lancers (6-1, 3-1). Tiven's goal was the first of her career.
• Sydney Cook scored twice as Montville beat Plainfield 4-1 in an ECC Division III game. Nicole Hudson had a goal and an assist, Jada Cheung scored a goal, Allie Kondash had two assists, Isabella Estelle had an assist and Katie Myjak made three saves for the Wolves (3-3-1, 2-2-1).
• Williams School won its second straight game, beating Watkinson 2-0. Sarah Harvey and Marlee Anselmi scored goals, Katelyn Harvey had an assist and Natalie Boissevain had the shutout in goal for the Blues (2-3).
• Natalie Smith scored three times as Grasso Tech beat Goodwin Tech 6-0 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Danielle Sands scored twice and Ziana Rodriguez had a goal for the Eagles (3-3, 3-3).
• Sienna Sferrazza had three goals and two assists as St. Bernard beat Tourtellotte 4-0. Abbey Egan had a goal and Alyssa Hernandez and Vanessa Colla had assists for the Saints (3-1).
Lyman Memorial beat Griswold 3-1 in an ECC Division II game. Emily McKelvey and Allyssa Judd scored goals for the Bulldogs (4-2, 3-1), who also scored on an own goal. Haley Cardinali and Madeline Archer had assists and Phoebe Carpenter made eight saves for Lyman. Zia Lear scored for Griswold (1-5-1, 0-3-1) and Hannah Service made 13 saves.
Volleyball
• New London blanked Windham, 25-19, 26-24, 25-21. Serenity Lancaster had eight kills, seven blocks, 12 digs and eight points and Nyarah Dudley had 25 digs, 12 points and three aces for the Whalers (5-6).
Malahika Paulo had 21 digs and six points, Raelyn Lopez had 17 digs and seven points, Cashel Jones had eight assists and eight digs and Jadelise Garrett had two kills and an ace for New London.
• Griswold beat Bacon Academy 3-1 in an ECC Division II game. Kierra Neilson had 14 kills, four blocks, eight digs and two aces, Gretta Dombkowski had 10 kills and three aces and Abby Matheson had 10 kills, 19 digs and five aces for the Wolverines (34, 2-1). Kiera Stewart had 11 digs and 37 assists, Meghan Walsh had 10 kills, Sammi D'Atri had 22 digs and Maddie Meyer had 12 kills for Bacon (4-4, 1-2).
Field hockey
• Violet Maziarz scored all the goals for East Lyme as the Vikings beat Woodstock Academy 3-1 in an ECC game. Gracie Lloyd had two assists and Zofia Maziarz and Brielle Brielle Rheaume had assists for East Lyme (4-0-1, 4-0-1).
• Anna Lettiere scored three goals as Stonington beat NFA 8-0 in an ECC game. Nora Walsh and Maeve Oakes had a goal and two assists each and Paige Goebel, Abby Mayorga and Olivia Duhig scored goals for the Bears (4-1-1, 4-0-1). Emma Kopin made 25 saves for NFA (0-6, 0-6).
