Golden Rule sails to New London
The Golden Rule, a ship that sails to promote nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, will be in New London Friday and Saturday.
Daytime sails will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday from New London City Pier. There will be a new set of passengers each hour, with up to four per ride. Sign up at bit. ly/ct-golden-sail.
A concert with Charlie King will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal St., New London.
On Saturday, tours of the Golden Rule ship will be offered from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at City Pier.
A rally with songs and speakers from 2 to 5 p.m. at City Pier will include music by Joyce Katzberg, Hugh Birdsall and G. Leslie Sweetnam, puppets from Mystic Paper Beasts, peace symbol painting for all ages, and a final sendoff as the ship sets sail with its messages about the dangers of the new arms race.
A group dinner will be at 6 p.m. at St. James, followed at 7 p.m. by an evening gathering with songs, speakers and a short film. This is organized by the CT Committee for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons: Hartford Catholic Worker, St. Francis House, Voluntown Peace Trust, and War Resisters League.
