Joseph “Joe” Boisclair, 96, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023. He was born in Norwich on Aug. 21, 1927.

Joe married the love of his life, Dorothy Helen (Carolinas), in

June of 1949; Dorothy passed away in July 2002. He was also predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Ruth (Davis) Boisclair; a younger brother Ernest; and three sisters, Elizabeth (Bradlaw), Alice (Kurasz) and Charlotte (Ewoldt). Joe is survived by a son and his wife, Richard and Diana. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Richard Jr., Kimberly Carr and Brittany; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a niece Betty Ann Bradlaw; and three nephews, Thomas Kurasz, James Kurasz and Robert Kurasz.

During his younger years, Joe delivered newspapers and was an avid drummer. Following a tour of duty during World War II, he was honorably discharged in 1948. Upon his discharge from the Army, Joe followed his father’s footsteps and joined the Norwich Fire Department; 39 years later, he retired as deputy chief and CT fire marshal. After retiring from the department, he was employed for 17 years at Eastern CT Cable TV.

Joe’s pastimes included relaxing and boating on Pauchaug Pond and tinkering in his garage.

Calling hours for Joe will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday Sept. 29, in Godere-Guillot Funeral Home, 21 N. 2nd Ave. Taftville. A funeral home service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Fallen Firefighters Fund at Norwich Firefighters, 10 N.
