SIDEWALK BLUNDER LEAVES BUSINESS’S MAILBOX IN PATHWAY
Portland — Portland officials and members of the public have been chuckling about a recent sidewalk mishap where concrete was poured around a High Street businessman’s mailbox, leaving it smack in the middle of the walkway.
The initial plan called for a cutout for the Daniels Energy mailbox at 8 High St., First Selectman Ryan Curley said. Multiple revisions were made during the process. Between the original draft and final proposal, he added, the project engineer made a change.
Curley saw a post about the box on a town Facebook page Thursday, took a screenshot and sent it to Public Works Director Ryan O’Halpin. The first selectman told the department head that the situation was “kind of crazy . ... We had a good laugh down there.
“It was a funny thing,” Curley said, with an “easy fix.” In the meantime, orange cones have been placed on either side.
