Ann Vasington
Norwich — Ann Marie Vasington, 88, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023. She was born Oct. 3, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Pallotti) DiTunno, in Hartford. Her husband, the Honorable Paul M. Vasington, predeceased her.
Ann went to Bulkeley High School in Hartford. After graduating, Ann became an administrative assistant in a law firm where she met Paul M. Vasington. Ann and Paul married June 23, 1956. They had 61 years together and raised four children: Lisa (Jeffrey) Ronner, Jean (Donald) Leone Jr., Paul (Anne Marie) Vasington and Andrea (Brian) Kelly. In addition to her children, she is also survived by six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Ann was predeceased by her sister Alexandria Gallucci; two brothers, Sylvester and Daniel DiTunno; and two grandchildren, Michael Ronner and Joseph Kelly.
Throughout Ann’s life, she worked and volunteered in various settings. She was an administrative assistant at Liberty Convalescent Home in Colchester and the Norwich Probate Court. She volunteered at the Uncas on the Thames as a buyer for the gift shop and was on the committee for the Norwich Rose Arts Festival Annual Cancer Ball. Ann was also active in two civic groups in Norwich, the Italian Woman’s Club and the Women’s City Club where she served a term as president.
Ann had many interests and talents. She was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed her Thursday afternoons with her bridge group. Playing bridge was a hobby that she enjoyed throughout her life. Ann had a flair for decorating that made her home not only inviting and warm but beautiful. Ann was also a fantastic cook, and her family and relatives spent many holidays eating and celebrating around her dining room table, which brought her joy.
Ann was happiest near the ocean. Ann’s love of the beach stemmed from her childhood summer home at Giants Neck Beach in Niantic. She continued to enjoy this special place with her husband and children. Later in life, Ann and Paul spent their winters in Sarasota, Fla., enjoying the beach and golfing. Ann was a formidable golfer. In 2000, Ann won the S.W.G.A. President’s Cup at their golf club in Sarasota. In addition to golf, Ann and Paul also loved to dance together. Her children would love seeing them on the dance floor at family events.
Ann’s most important role in life was as a mother. She was devoted to her children and remained a central figure in all of their lives. Her door was always open to her children’s friends. Ann also enjoyed attending sporting events making her presence known in the stands. Ann’s friendly demeanor and zest for life will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Labenski Funeral Home 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, 213 Broadway, Norwich. Entombment will immediately follow at Saint Mary Mausoleum, 815 Boswell Ave., Norwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Connecticut Children’s Foundation, P.O.
