Wake up and ride

— Rick Koster

Hard rock band Unwoke would never sleep through the chance to help a good cause. That’s why the trio performs Saturday in support of the Groton Elks Riders #2163 1st Annual Poker Run benefitting Easterseals Veterans Rally Point — a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to Connecticut veterans.

Motorcyclists taking part in the run leave at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start and visit the VFW in Mystic, Uncle Kranky’s in Jewett City, the Polish Club in Montville and Elks Lodge #360 in New London before rendezvousing at the Groton Elks Lodge. Scorecards due by 2:30 p.m. — and that’s when Unwoke kicks it.

Members and nonmember welcome. There will be raffles and prizes, merch, and food and drinks available for purchase and donations are encouraged. It’s not a bad idea to bring a lawn chair. Oh, and request Unwoke’s “Take Control, just in case you thought rock was dead.

Groton Elks Riders #2163’s 1st Annual Poker Run, 10 a.m. Saturday, registration starting 8:30 p.m., music at 2:30 p.m., 700 Shennecosett Road, Groton; $20 registration for riders; grotonelkriders@yahoo.com.
